Bunch of Grapes 'Gastroride'
29 July 2007. The poor weather cleared just in time for the ride along the Taff Trail to Pontypridd. We set of with ten riders, which seemed to snowball along the way until we were thirteen, and then fourteen at the pub. The outward journey was slightly uphill, and it took us an hour and three-quarters to get to the pub. The only awkward section was the detour near the cemetery in Pontypridd—some of the Sustrans signs have been removed, and the roundabout near Upper Boat is quite busy.
The Bunch of Grapes pub itself provided a great atmosphere for our lunch. We sat in an area decorated with growing vines. The food was good and the service was friendly— definitely a good choice for a return visit in future.
We all seemed to cycle back in autopilot, although we did nearly manage to lose two! Most people had dropped off the back near their homes before we reached Bute Park. In fact, the park was quite lively with Cardiff Mela taking place. All in all, this was an enjoyable full day out.
