20 May 2007 Ride Report : Llanerch Vineyard Leader: Sheila Johnson Co-Leader: Marion Gray Six of us headed off from the bridge. We followed the Taff Trail up to Llandaff, taking in the Cathedral view and then headed West through Pentebrane , past St Fagans and through Peterston Super-Ely. We detoured to look at some 1920 Art Deco villas, apparently Rhodri Morgan lives around here. We soon detoured again to investigate refreshments at the new Fig farm shop which we can highly recommend. We passed through Miskin. At Llanerch Vineyard we stopped for snacks/lunch (good fayre), and some wonderful Pen-lon bottled ales that were expertly poured by the waiter, who poured them into jugs first to prevent them getting cloudy. We also had a surprise meeting with Germaine and most of her family. The way back was much shorter via Peterstone Super-Ely again. Although this was billed as a hard ride it was pretty easy going and the weather was fine but strangely chilly for this time of year. The only disappointment was seeing several dead squirrels and a dead hedgehog en route, obviously struck by cars. On the upside the hedgerows were displaying a fine array of wild flowers, and the irises at Llanerch were exceptional. John
