Bike Week 2008 in Cardiff will once again involve a wide range of rides and other events. Visit this page for up-to-date listings about what's going on.
Saturday 7 June: Fête of the Earth
The Friary, 10–3. Fête of the Earth will take place in near The Friary in Cardiff City Centre. There will be stalls from a wide range of groups whose activities touch on environmental concerns. Cycle Cardiff will be running an information stall (maps, leaflets, advice, etc.) and offering a free Dr Bike service. Come along and visit us on the day.
Friday 13 June: Bike Week Reception and Design Show
Wales Millenium Centre, 5 p.m. Over the last few months, students at UWIC have been busy designing and creating a range of cycle clothing and other products as part of courses in Textile Design and Product Design. All of their creations will be displayed at a reception in the Wales Millenium Centre, Bar One on the First Floor Balcony. The event will be begin at 5 p.m. Do drop in and join us for what promises to be a great evening. Cycle Cardiff and UWIC have developed this project with the support of Welsh clothing company Howies. Sunday 15 June: Bicycle Brunch
Kemi's Cafe, Cardiff Bay, 10 a.m. Meet outside Kemi's Cafe for breakfast from 10 a.m. Rides around the Bay will begin at 11 a.m. In principle, access across the barage should be open by this time, so we should be able to take an inaugural ride across to Penarth. Tuesday 17 June: Cycling Quiz Night
Nos Da Hotel, Fitzhamon Embankment, 7 p.m. Quiz master Nigel Baker has kindly offered to prepare and run a pub quiz with a cycling bias. This event will also be run as a fundraiser for Cycle Cardiff. Come along and take part in what should be an entertaining evening. No cheating. Contact: Nigel Baker.
Wednesday 18 June: Midsummer Night's Ride
Meet 6.30–6.45 on the Bute Park side of the Sophia Garden's footbridge. There will be two rides: an easy ride along the Taff Trail as far as Tongwynlais (18 km) and a longer ride on the road for those who fancy a bit of a workout (approx 30 km). Both rides will rendezvous in the Lewis Arms in Tongwynlais for an evening drink before returning after dark along the Taff Trail. Bring lights! Contact: Nick Canham 029 20222016.
Saturday 21 June: Pedal Power Ride Brecon–Cardiff
Raise money for Cardiff's leading cycling charity with a ride to Cardiff from either Brecon or Tongwynlais (take your pick).
Sunday 22 June
Fruit picking. Meet 10.00–10.15 on the Bute Park side of the Sophia Gardens footbridge. Up the Taff Trail to Gelynis Farm for early season strawberries. Bring containers. There's a cafe for those indifferent to the allure of soft fruit. Easy: 15 km (9 miles). Contact: Nick Canham 029 20222016
